Valuing vocabulary

Vocab tests: we all do them, but how can we make this a more meaningful exercise than scribbling down spellings on a scrap of paper?

I experimented with Google Forms but found that this was just an electronic version of the scrap of paper!

Recently, I realised that I could print off a vocab test from one of my Quizlet lists.  This has the advantage of looking professional, so students take it seriously.  Once marked, I go over the vocab using the Quizlet flashcards and get students to write in missing answers in green pen.  The finished sheet is stuck in their books.  A subsequent task is writing sentences incorporating each word on the list.  This activity lasted the whole lesson but really made the students think about the vocabulary.  A valuable vocab test!
