Graphic Grammar

Having taught my class prepositions and marked their work, I drew a little picture in each student’s book of a cartoon animal with the question “Where is the …?”  This formed the starter for the next lesson as each student wrote their answer to the question.  I had included new vocabulary in my drawings so they had to use dictionaries as well.  Then, I challenged the students to produce three drawings with explanatory sentences themselves.  Students were very creative and came up with sentences such as “the sheep is in space” (which in itself generated another dictionary discussion: what type of space?).  An easy lesson for me, a fun lesson for the students with them completely focused on the grammar in hand.
