Maths Week
The Maths department at my school has an annual Maths Week. I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to revise numbers with Year 7. We started with the game where the teacher shouts out a number and pupils get into groups of that number. Any who are not in a group are out. Instead of calling out a number, I called out a sum in the target language, so they had to work out the sum first.
The second activity was to give them a list of target language questions which could all be answered with a number. They had to write the answers as a word. Sample questions:
How many students in this class?
How old is the school?
In which year did the Normans conquer England?
They enjoyed the level of challenge, revised their numbers and I contributed to Maths Week. Everyone’s a winner!
